Catherine Zeta-Jones gave her husband the surprise of a lifetime and was afraid it would end his life.
During a recent appearance on “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” Zeta-Jones explained that Douglas was in France filming a new project “for what seems like a lifetime” and how she reunited with her children for the surprise during the holidays. She called the surprise “one of those big, big, big moments.”
“The kids and I surprised him for Thanksgiving. He had no idea. Carys, my daughter, came from the East Coast. I was here with my son, we left here, we walked in in the hotel, under cover of night,” Zeta-Jones explained. “He came home from work and we were there. It was one of those, I thought he was going to have a heart attack for a minute. It was one of those big, big, big moments .”
Zeta-Jones, 53, and Douglas, 78, have been married for 22 years after first meeting in 1998.

In August 2013, Zeta-Jones and Douglas announced their separation.
The split lasted eight months and the couple reunited in April 2014. At the time, Douglas said, “I’m crazy about her. And yeah, I think every couple has their tough times.”
Zeta-Jones considered her parents’ marriage a “model” for what a successful marriage looks like, saying she realized it was important to be open and honest with your partner.
“I think it’s just unfathomable to me that you’ve been with one person for 18 years, and things aren’t rosy every day. That’s just not the case,” she said. on the “Today Show” in 2017. “My mom and dad had been married for 52 years, and they were a wonderful role model for me, because I’ve seen the good, the bad, and the ugly with them, and they’re still so strong.”
The “Wednesday” actress recently revealed to the “Good Morning America” hosts which of the two is better at giving gifts. She had no problem admitting Douglas would win the award, joking that she “peaked around eighth grade”.
“If I had known we’d be married this long, I would have held back. I wasn’t considering a 22-year-old man. This is Hollywood, man,” she joked to Robin Roberts, Michael Strahan and George Stephanopoulos.

Zeta-Jones has revealed her husband is good at picking out jewelry, saying “it’s something I really love and treasure” because of the “sentimental value, obviously.”
The eighth year of their marriage was the year Zeta-Jones thinks she gave the best gift — an old-school hot rod.

“A hot rod he was lucky enough to call – a 1930s coupe,” she clarified before speaking to the camera. “I’m going to be wrong Michael, I’m sorry. It looks like a little Bugsy Malone car. … It’s really awesome. And then I peaked! It’s been socks off ever since.”
