Following the announcement from Buckingham Palace on Tuesday that King Charles III’s coronation at Westminster Abbey will take place on May 6 next year, some on social media are wondering if the date could be an affront to his sons Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
May 6 is also their son Archie’s birthday. He will be 4 years old at the time of the coronation.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have had a strained relationship with the rest of the Royal Family after deciding to step down as senior royals in 2020 and move to California.
Charles spoke kindly of the couple during his first speech as king on September 9, saying: ‘I also want to express my love for Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their lives overseas’, but the couple have also had their royal profiles on the family site demoted to the bottom of the page since Charles’s accession.

And although Harry and Meghan’s children are entitled to the titles of prince and princess since their grandfather is on the throne, no announcement has been made.
Charles announced he was conferring Prince William and Kate Middleton as Prince and Princess of Wales in his first speech, but unfortunately nothing on Archie and Lilibet, Harry and Meghan’s youngest child.
“I wonder why King Charles chose to have his coronation on Archie’s birthday? Maybe his grandson could share his special day or he did it to steal the ‘thunder’ of her grandson,” one Twitter user mused.

Another claimed: “Charles III wants the media to bombard Harry and Meghan until next year, which they will sacrifice…to have Archie’s birthday in the United States in peace or a chaotic coronation and stressful for a cold fish dad in the UK. Charles continues to be an awful person.”
KING CHARLES ‘DEVAASTED’ BY HIS RETURNS WITH PRINCE HARRY, ‘HOPES’ FOR ‘RECONCILIATION’: AUTHOR
“Charles picked his coronation date so he wouldn’t have to attend Archie’s 4th birthday. His selfishness is amazing,” a third remarked while a fourth suggested it would “give Harry a great excuse not to not attend”.
Another said: “Charles is now using Harry’s children in his mean and hateful PR game. Harry would be wise to tell this man FU and your coronation!! Hope he and Meghan have a birthday party to Archie. A fucking explosion!!!”
“So Charles’ coronation is scheduled for…Archie’s birthday. I’m here for the drama,” someone else joked.

Others called him “small”, “selfish” and “rude”.

Many, however, sided with the king.
“The way the Sussex Squad are reacting to the news you would have thought it was saying ‘King Charles coronation tramples Archie’s birthday… by blowing a candle in the wind…'” a Charles defender tweeted. .
Others pointed out that Harry played a polo match in Santa Barbara on Archie’s birthday this year.

“I don’t know why Harry and Nutmeg are complaining about the coronation of King Charles III on Archie’s 4th birthday, because he was out all day playing polo on Archie’s 3rd birthday, so he’s not hardly in a position to criticize anyone else.” someone said. “What a two-faced hypocrite.”
“Harry dumped poor Archie on his 3rd birthday to go play polo, so let’s not forget that fact!” another palace defender added. “The kid is irrelevant, given that he doesn’t live in this country and will never be a senior member of the royal family. The coronation of King Charles, meanwhile, is a once-in-a-lifetime event. “

A third person used his experience as a grandfather to try to figure out the king’s intent. “My theory, as a grandfather, of why Charles III’s coronation is May 6: that way he can almost certainly see Archie on his birthday. Trying to leave grandfather on the birthday list? Not this time. England. LOL. I would have totally done that.”
The date is “definitely not a snub”, royal expert Katie Nicholl told ‘Entertainment Tonight’, calling it a “happy coincidence”.
“Obviously a huge amount of planning has to go into a significant moment in history, like a coronation, and the royal calendar is full of birthdays and anniversaries, so I think that’s absolutely the one of those occasions where it’s a coincidence and I hope for a happy coincidence,” she said.
The Sussexes are expected to be invited to the event, but it is unclear if they will attend.
