New York restaurateur Keith McNally has forgiven James Corden after he claimed the ‘Late Late Show’ host was the ‘most abusive’ customer he’s ever had.
“James Corden just called me and apologized profusely,” McNally wrote on Instagram Monday night. “Having screwed myself more than most people, I’m a firm believer in second chances.”
McNally, owner of iconic restaurant Balthazar, went on to joke that if the 44-year-old let him host the late-night talk show for “9 months” he would overturn his ban on the iconic French brassie.
“No of course not. But…anyone who is magnanimous enough to apologize to a slacker like me (and my staff) does not deserve to be banned from anywhere. Especially Balthazar,” he said. he continued, adding that “all is forgiven”.
His decision to give Corden a second chance comes after McNally – who is known as ‘The Restaurateur Who Invented Downtown’ – said he should ’86’ (evict or ban) the comedian from its restaurants because of its mistreatment of staff.
In a scathing Instagram post earlier today, the 71-year-old shared “two examples of the funny man’s treatment” of his employees at some of his establishments.
In June, the owner claimed Corden became furious after finding a hair in his food, demanding free drinks and threatening to leave negative reviews at the restaurant.
“After eating his main course, Corden showed the hair to Balthazar’s manager, G., who apologized,” he wrote alongside a photo of the actor. “Corden was extremely mean to G and said, ‘Give us another round of drinks this second. And also take care of all our drinks so far. This way I write all the nasty reviews in yelp or something. ‘”
In a second instance, earlier this month, the “Into the Woods” actor allegedly yelled at his server when his wife’s brunch order went wrong.
“Mr. Corden’s wife ordered an egg yolk omelette with Gruyere cheese and salad. A few minutes after receiving the food, James called their server, MK and told him there was a little of egg white mixed with egg yolk.MK informed the floor manager, G. The kitchen redid the dish but unfortunately sent it with home fries instead of salad.
According to the manager’s notes on the incident, Corden began “screaming like crazy at the waiter,” saying, “‘You can’t do your job! You can’t do your job! Maybe I should go into the kitchen and make the omelette myself!”
The famous restaurant owner told Page Six exclusively that he was “reluctant” to post about the actor’s behavior but wanted to protect his staff.
“Their job is hard enough. They shouldn’t have to put up with this kind of abuse from anyone, especially the rich and famous,” he told us.
