Julia Fox takes her love of fall to a whole new level.
The Uncut Gems The 32-year-old star, known for her unconventional sense of style, took to the streets of New York City to find the materials for her latest outfit: a bikini dress made from fallen leaves from trees in her local park.
“THE FALL 2022 DRESS. Made from leaves and resin,” the model and actress captioned her video on Instagram, which shows the outfit’s process from start to finish. “Thank you @emmafujiko for helping me bring my vision to life.”
In the video, Fox explained how she came up with the idea for the resin bikini dress.
“Hey, guys. So I’m obsessed with leaves, and I go to the park every day, and I saw the leaves change, and I was really inspired,” Fox said, who can be seen climb on a railing. in the park to pick a variety of leaves. “And then I called my best friend Emma, who is a resin artist and a resin master, and we cleaned the sheets, and we started mixing the resin, and we were going to freeze these sheets in time.”
Together, Fox and her friend painted the resin leaves “very quickly before they oxidized” and hung them to dry on a makeshift rack constructed from cardboard until they had finished drying.
“The leaves are so pretty. The leaves are so important. They rake them up and blow them off, but it’s really food for trees and insects,” Fox added.
Later, she went deeper into constructing the outfit, which included matching accessories.
“We made these little earrings. It’s the mulberry leaf. It’s like the New York staple,” Fox said. “And here I’m doing a little boob cup. I just used the hot glue gun to glue everything together. And here it’s going to go on my boobs. I love it.”
The pieces were hung together with a chain to create the top, which Fox said she hopes is more “like body jewelry than clothes, you know what I mean?” The finished look featured the leaves almost hanging off her body, which was part of Fox’s goal to make it look like lives were falling, “since it’s the fall 2022 dress.”
Ultimately, Fox said she was “a bit obsessed” with her creation.
“I don’t know if it’s really wearable, because my loot was in it, but I’m obsessed with it. And it was really a labor of love. I’m kinda obsessed with it. Anything can be clothes , ladies! And now that we’re coming in, we’re in dark times, we all have to learn to be crafty,” she concluded with a chuckle.
The actress is known for taking a less traditional approach to fashion. In May, she was spotted in a Hollywood grocery store sporting an oversized denim blazer, matching knee-high boots and a bikini briefs set.
“My vibe is just gearing up for the rn apocalypse,” she captioned the casual snaps, which showed her loading groceries into her car.
