The pool boy who had an affair with Jerry Falwell Jr.’s wife says she first approached him at a hotel in Miami and offered him sex – as long as her husband could watch.
The beginning of the affair between then-20-year-old pool boy Giancarlo Granda and Becki Falwell is documented in Granda’s forthcoming book “Off the Deep End: Jerry and Becki Falwell and the Collapse of an Evangelical Dynasty.”
The end of the six-year affair led to Jerry Falwell stepping down as president of Liberty University in 2020. He was later sued by the school after Granda revealed his relationship with his wife.
Granda was working at the swanky Fontainebleau hotel in 2012 when Becki allegedly locked eyes with him as she sat poolside in a bikini before starting to flirt with him.
Granda, who had no idea who she or her husband were at the time, said he was shocked when she asked him if she wanted to come back to his room with him after work.
“When I didn’t say no right away, she added, ‘There’s only one thing . . . My husband wants to watch,'” Granda wrote in an excerpt from the new book, co-authored by Mark Ebner, provided to Rolling Stone.
“I was conflicted. For one, she was in a bikini, touching her neck, fidgeting with her hair, giving me compliments, sipping her drink while looking me in the eye. I found it all very intriguing,” Granda, now 31, revealed. “But it was also weird and different from anything I had done before.”
He asked Becki if only the two could meet alone at first, but she said that would go against an agreement she made with her husband. He told her he would think about it and let her know.
“Shortly after, her husband came to join us, and she introduced him as Jerry. He was wearing Speedo briefs, his belly hanging from his belt,” Granda said in the book. awkward, and he was largely avoiding eye contact, but he shook my hand and said, “Nice to meet you, Gian,” in his thick southern accent. He pronounced Gian as “John”, and that has become his nickname for me for as long as I’ve known him.
With some encouragement from his colleagues, he agreed to meet the Falwells at a Day’s Inn. He even phoned his sister to tell her what was going on “in case Becki and Jerry turn out to be serial killers. She thought it was all hysterical.
Granda met Becki in the hotel lobby, where she seemed nervous and was drinking whiskey from a plastic cup, according to the clip. The two had an awkward little chat before heading upstairs, he claimed.
“At the time I felt like they had never done this before, but a decade later I think that’s very unlikely,” Granda said.
In the bedroom, Jerry was reportedly drunk and lying on one of the two queen beds, Granda recalled. “Hey Gian,” Falwell said to the pool boy, letting out a chuckle.
A nervous Granda reportedly told Jerry that if he ever felt jealous to say something and he would stop – “But he said to me, ‘Don’t worry about it. You do what you want to do.
Becki and Jerry had one rule as part of their arrangement: no sex.
Instead, Granda and Becki performed oral sex on each other while Jerry stared at them, and at one point they got too close for comfort, according to the book.
“At one point Jerry got up and walked over to the side of the bed to get a better angle. I had a moment of near panic, thinking, what is he doing? and I told him to back off – not in a hostile way, just setting boundaries.He apologized and quickly walked back to the entrance and stood right outside the bathroom.
Granda said afterward he was sure the encounter was a once-in-a-lifetime thing until he got a phone call from Becki the next day asking if he wanted to see her again.
“I paused, then I thought, why not?” Granda wrote.
The two continued their relationship until 2018.
The widely publicized case is also the subject of an upcoming Hulu series, “God Forbid: The Sex Scandal That Brought Down a Dynasty,” premiering Nov. 1.
