The first three episodes of Harry and Meghan, a Netflix “global event” (their words) chronicling the tabloid-ravaged love affair of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, from the royal couple’s first date to their nuptials, offered some surprises. We dug into their personal stories – Meghan’s early years negotiating her mixed-race upbringing in the Valley; Harry’s trauma over the loss of his mother, Princess Diana, and the Combinations the actress’s discomfiture in the face of royal customs. So little gleaned from the first three hours of the docuseries that The Firm’s only spin worshipers could grab to critique their favorite punching bag was an out-of-context clip in which Meghan jokingly re-enacted her first attempt at bowing.

Perhaps the only intriguing revelations were Harry admitting his great shame over that Nazi uniform he wore to a costume party as a teenager, and Markle’s estranged father Thomas peddling photos to British tabloids while ghosting Meghan and Harry as their royal wedding approaches. . Some inclusions in filmmaker Liz Garbus’ doc, like Meghan showcasing her lifestyle website as a thriving, boundary-pushing business, or her continued insistence that she absolutely knew nothing about Prince Harry before their gullibility as a couple. And the whole project feels like it arrived a year and a half late given that hit Oprah interview, those floundering Spotify podcasts, and Apple TV+’s little-seen mental health docuseries. Harry. The me you can’t see.
Where’s the tea? Would Harry and/or Meghan finally unmask the royal mystery wondering how dark their child’s skin could be, or the attitude of King Charles III and Prince William towards Meghan, or the gossipy feud between Meghan and Kate Middleton, or if the palace scapegoated Meghan to cover up Prince Andrew’s Epstein scandal, or those royal affair rumors in its final three episodes, dropping Dec. 15? Is it really worth more than six hours of your precious time?

Kind of. After a flurry of favorable PR for Meghan, including highlighting her work with victims of the Grenfell Tower fire and talking heads praising their ability to “speak so easily to a different generation”, Harry and Meghan looks at the tabloids’ relentless attacks on Meghan – ripping at her supposed ‘diva’ behavior, calling her a ‘gangster’, baselessly alleging links to terrorist suspects, comparing her unfavorably to Kate Middleton and covering her with tropes of womanhood angry black.
“It felt like it would all stop if I wasn’t there. And that was the scariest thing about it – it was such a clear thought,” Meghan says of her thoughts of suicide.
Her mother, Doria Ragland, holds back tears as she recalls how Meghan nearly killed herself and the helplessness she felt. According to Meghan, the Royal Family would not allow her to seek treatment because of her appearance, and Harry expresses deep regret for prioritizing his royal role over that of a loving husband.
“Looking back on it now, I hate myself for it,” he says.
In the fifth episode, Harry recalls a heated summit between Harry and Meghan and the rest of the royal family at Sandringham House on January 13, 2020, where they discussed their decision not only to move to Canada, but to be “half, half-out” when it comes to royal duties.
“It was terrifying to have my brother yelling and yelling at me, and my dad saying things that just weren’t true, and my grandma just sat there quietly and figured it all out,” she said. laments Harry.

Tendency
In a rather tense scene, Meghan confronts Harry and accuses William of knowing about leaked text messages between her and her former communications manager regarding a personal letter she wrote to her father, who was at the center of the Mail court case.
