Christine reveals which woman she “ended” her relationship with, Kody denounces his “manipulation” and the other wives wonder if the exes are really “divorced” in the eyes of the church.
The most recent season of “Sister Wives” was very tumultuous for Kody Brown and his wives – whose numbers are now dwindling.
In part one of the family’s ‘Sister Wives: One on One’ special, Kody, Christine, Meri, Janelle and Robyn all got a peek at the family drama that unfolded throughout from the show’s 15th season, with a very specific focus on Christine officially leaving their plural marriage for good. All five were interviewed separately for the show.
Christine was at the center of much of the conversation during that hour, as host Sukanya Krishnan tried to dig deeper with her, her ex and the other women about what led her to make the shocking decision to leave their arrangement. One of the first things Krishnan brought up was that Kody had told Christine before the break that he wasn’t attracted to her anymore, because she wasn’t “loyal” to him.

“Hearing that he wasn’t attracted to me was terrible to hear and super embarrassing, right?” Christine said. “I just got to thinking, it goes both ways. After he said that, I was like, ‘Oh, I’m done and it’s over. It was almost a relief, I’m not going to keep fighting for it and keep trying if you’re not attracted to me.”
Kody, however, told the host he felt his ex was “playing a game.” “From the time we got married, the manipulation, the pout, the tantrums, just behavioral things,” he then added, before claiming that Christine “lost her s— when he told her he hoped to reconcile with Meri over her catfishing scandal. . We didn’t get a full reaction to that claim in this episode, but a promo for part 2 included Christine saying, “It’s really frustrating and offensive right now. There’s no way I wouldn’t. don’t support and that Meri has a great relationship. I would never do that.”
Kody explained that he “didn’t feel like it had to be over,” when asked why it took him too long to come to terms with the inevitable.
“We’re not talking about destroying her and my intimate relationship, we’re talking about destroying that whole family bond,” he added, saying, “And it’s weird that he doesn’t there’s only one person who can do that.”

“I knew she was unhappy,” Janelle said when asked about the split. “I know, especially during Covid, there were even more issues. I think she finally got to the point where she knew for her own happiness and self-preservation, she had to do something.”
Robyn, meanwhile, said she would “walk [Kody’s] ass in a therapist” if she ever started experiencing some of the intimacy issues he and Christine were dealing with – saying she would have forced him to ‘work on that stuff’. She also said she believed his ‘attraction’ was based on one person’s behavior, saying she saw him ‘just melt’ after fights with some of the other wives if they are able to ‘figure something out and she’s supportive and nice “.
The new wife then opened a new Pandora’s box saying Christine told her ‘she doesn’t want a relationship with me’ in the future – adding that it has been ‘horrible and difficult’.
“I don’t know how to make sure she’s not my sister. It was really, really difficult. I always thought that Christine would open up to me. When she said she was leaving, she took a very big dream for me,” Robyn continued. “I always imagined us when we were older, sitting there with our grandkids and getting that fellowship that we saw some of those older women in our church having. She blew it away.”
She added that while Christine thinks Robyn ‘sabotaged’ her relationship with Kody, ‘she’s wrong’ – proclaiming that ‘all I did was support her relationship with Kody’.

Christine was the first to admit she hadn’t had a ‘good relationship’ with Meri or Robyn ‘in years’ – although she also didn’t believe things between them were necessarily ‘bad’. But more recently, she “completely ended the friendship” with Meri.
“I ended the friendship, I ended the relationship. It wasn’t safe for me and I ended it,” Christine said. “I just said, ‘No, we’re not going to be friends because I don’t trust you and I’m not going to do this to myself again.'”
“We tried a little here and there in Vegas, but she didn’t treat me well,” she added. “She wouldn’t be nice to me. She put me down a lot in public situations. When I hit my wall, I was done. I just never knew who to expect and it was too stressful.”

Meri, Janelle, and Robyn also discussed whether Kody and Christine are technically “divorced.” Although they were not legally married, they were spiritually related. After deciding to leave, Christine also left the Mormon Church, presenting an interesting situation for the group. For them to be officially “divorced” in the eyes of the church, Robyn explained, Christine had to be intimate with another man. But, as Janelle noted, if Christine no longer subscribes to the same beliefs, does that even matter?
“If she’s going to have… her plan is to go find her soul mate, so that would break her bond [with Kody]”, Robyne said.
“In our church, you have to go through channels to be released…but Christine doesn’t believe in that anymore. But a contract is between two people,” Janelle added, explaining the riddle. “Does that apply to Christine if she doesn’t believe? I don’t know. You can’t make someone follow rules they don’t believe anymore.”
She said she believes Christine is “looking for that deep connection, that deep companionship” in the future – and she can’t wait to ask her one day: “Are you happy? Have you found someone who can finally give you what you need, which deep fulfillment?”
The rest of the hour revolved around the Meri-Christine-Kody reconciliation situation, but all footage aired ahead of the special. You can get a summary of what happened here.
Parts 2 and 3 of the special airing January 1 and 8 on TLC.
