The Midnight Club is shaping up to be one of the biggest new horror shows to join Netflix’s ranks this spooky season. Based on the 1994 novel of the same name by Christopher Pike, The Midnight Club has been under construction since early 2020, with Mike Flanagan and Lea Fong at the bar. The series premiered exclusively on Netflix on October 7, 2022.


Flanagan’s name quickly became a staple in the horror house following his directorial debut of Oculusclosely followed by Before I wake up. He continued to create The haunting franchise in partnership with Netflix, producing thrillers The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor. Leah Fong joined as writer and producer for The Haunting of Bly Manor and their partnership continues until The Midnight Club.

The Midnight Club follows a group of young adults cohabiting in a hospice as they battle their terminal illnesses. They meet at midnight each night to reconcile and share ghost stories with each other, distracting them from their own mortality. Each member must make a pact when they join the club, agreeing that if they are the first to succumb to their illness, they will try to reach out to others from beyond the grave. After one of them passes, strange and inexplicable events begin to haunt the others.

Now that the series is out, we have a lot more information to work on when it comes to casting. There are a few familiar names in the cast list, as well as plenty of relative “unknowns,” but don’t let that fool you. Who’s in the cast?

The cast of this series actually take on multiple roles and names throughout each episode of the series, as they act out the ghost stories that the members of The Midnight Club tell each night. This guide will only focus on their characters as they exist in the “real world”. If you haven’t watched the show yet, don’t worry, this article won’t contain any major spoilers. Instead, most of the information will remain focused on the official trailer.

Iman Benson – Ilonka

–Iman Benson is an American actress best known for her role as Tia Russell in the television comedy series, Uncle Buck. She also had a recurring role in Alexa and Katie and was the leader in #blackAF. Benson will play Ilonka, the series lead role. She discovers Brightcliffe after learning she has thyroid cancer and becomes the hospice’s newest guest, hoping to find an unorthodox cure.

Igby Rigney – Kevin

As seen in the trailer, Igby Rigney will play another patient at Brightcliffe who first interacts with Ilonka after she moves into the hospice. He states that he had been living there for about 4 months prior to his arrival and was diagnosed with leukemia. Rigney was also in Midnight Mass, making it his second collaboration with Mike Flanagan. He will also appear in Flanagan’s upcoming series. The Fall of House Usher.

Annarah Cymone – Sandra

Annarah Cymone also made her acting debut in Flanagan’s Midnight Masswith only one previously credited acting gig, which was a 2021 drama called In cage. She will play Sarah, a super-religious Brightcliffe patient who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. Her character is the most worried about some of the healing rituals that Ilonka suggests trying.

Aya Furukawa – Natsuki

Aya Furukawa is a bilingual Canadian actress, fluent in English and Japanese. Her first role was in the 2011 film cabin in the woods as one of the Japanese schoolgirls. She took a step back from acting until recently when she appeared in New cherry flavor. She will be playing a character named Natsuki. Natsuki’s character struggles with depression and attempted suicide only 2 months before she was diagnosed with terminal cancer. As a patient at Brightcliffe, she develops a new lust for life through her friendships and relationships with other patients.

Adia – Cheri

This series will be byemade his acting debut. She plays Cheri, one of Brightcliffe’s most mysterious patients. She states during one scene that she had been in Brightcliffe for 3 months at the time of Ilonka’s arrival. Her character seems to have a dry sense of humor, as she states, “Is this a hospice? My parents told me it was boarding school…” However, we learn early on that she had a tendency to constantly lie about herself and her background before coming to Brightcliffe.

Ruth Codd – Anya

Ruth Codd will play the fiery and cynical Anya. She is seen in the trailer, in a wheelchair and looking the sickest of the group, possibly heralding the series’ first death. Along with Igby Rigney, she will also make an appearance on Flanagan’s upcoming show, The Fall of House Usher.

Sauriyan Sapkota – Amesh

The Midnight Club will be Sauriya Sapkotaacting debut, closely followed by a follow-up appearance in The Fall of House Usher alongside teammates Ruth Codd and Igby Rigney. Sapkota plays a character named Amesh, and can be seen in the trailer counting down exactly how long he stayed in Brightcliffe, clearly not enjoying his time there. Before Ilonka arrived, he was the newest patient there. He is also shown later in the trailer kissing Aya Furukawa’s character, Natsuki.

William Chris Sumpter – Spencer

William Chris Sumter plays the last member of The Midnight Club, Spencer. He is an openly gay character with an AIDS diagnosis. Dr. Stanton assigns him the duty of showing Ilonka to Brightcliffe. He can be seen in the trailer during the scene where he and Amesh tease Ilonka about taking the elevator down to the basement. Sumpter has a musical background in addition to being an actor, as his first job was in the Broadway musical. Matilda. He was also seen recently in Dreams of New York as a teenager Theo.

Heather Langenkamp is a horror film veteran, making her debut in a “loud scream” as Nancy Thompson in the 1984 film, The Nightmare on Elm Street. Langenkamp will play Dr. Stanton, the person who oversees all of Brightcliffe’s patients. She can be seen in the trailer hailing the character of Iman Benson and her adoptive father, Tim. It’s a role that is personal to Langenkamp, ​​as she lost her son to cancer in recent years. Dr. Stanton also shares this information about his character when he first met Ilonka and Tim.

Matt Biedel – Tim

matt biedel will play Ilonka’s adoptive father. Although he disagrees with Ilonka’s decision to live out his final days at Brightcliffe, he is still supportive. He can be seen early in the trailer, telling her to celebrate her acceptance to Stanford, and again later near her hospital bed. He also played a role in Midnight Mass, like Sturge, the island’s handyman. In addition to his Flanagan filmography, he was also in The Umbrella Academy and Altered carbon.

Samantha Sloyan – Shasta

Samantha Sloyan previously worked with Mike Flanagan, in his 2016 film silence. She also starred in Flanagan’s limited series, Midnight Mass like the despicable Bev Keane. She plays the role of Shasta, a woman Ilonka meets in the woods near Brightcliffe. She is also possibly shown as a younger woman in the center of an old photo of a group of ex-Brightcliffe patients, so she could be a former patient herself. It’s implied that she knows more than she lets on about the strange happenings at Brightcliffe.

Zach Gilford is best known for his role as Matt Saracen in the television series Friday night lights. More recently he played Shane from The Purge: Anarchyas well as the starring role of Riley in Midnight Mass alongside Samantha Sloyen. He plays the role of Mark, one of Brightcliffe’s orderlies.

Since its release on Netflix on October 7, The Midnight Club has ten episodes to kick off the Halloween season. If you’ve seen Flanagan’s other shows, you’ll be happy to see a few more familiar faces make appearances throughout the series, such as Henry Thomas and Robert Longstreet.
