    Damage control (Credit: WWE)

Welcome to WWE Raw coverage and recap from Bleacher Report on October 3.

CTRL damage was featured this week for two segments. Not only did Bayley and Bianca Belair sign up for Sunday’s Extreme Rules pay-per-view, but we also saw Candice LeRae take on Dakota Kai.

Seth Rollins and Matt Riddle had a showdown, Otis took on Johnny Gargano, Chad Gable took on Braun Strowman, and The Judgment Day took on the team of AJ Styles and Rey Mysterio.

Let’s take a look at what happened on Monday’s Raw.

Judgment Day against Rey Mysterio and AJ Styles

1 of 6

Damian Priest and Finn Bálor were with Rhea Ripley and Dominik Mysterio by their side to deliver a promo on Edge. The prince promised to make him say “I quit”.

Rey and Styles came out for the opening fight and started brawling with Priest and Bálor as soon as they reached the ring. They took down both opponents to send us into a break.

Judgment Day was under control for a while when the game resumed. Rey took most of the attack until he hot-tagged Styles, who unloaded on both opponents with a flurry of punches until Priest shoved him through the ropes until on the ground.

Dom did the thing where he dared his dad to punch him before Ripley took him out with a clothesline. This all happened while the referee was distracted, so Bálor was able to finish Styles off with a knockout for the win.

It was a decent way to open the show. The match was good but did nothing to move this story forward. It was more what we have already seen in recent weeks.

Winners: Rey Mysterio and AJ Styles

    Notable Moments and Observations

  • Ripley whispering to Dom before he speaks is such a fun little detail. It’s just a shame he’s not yet a compelling heel.
  • Rey’s baseball slide into a scissor takedown on Bálor looked great.
  • Styles getting mad at Rey probably made some people think he might join The Judgment Day until the band attacked him and left him in the ring.

Bobby Lashley vs. Mustafa Ali

2 out of 6

After issuing a backstage challenge, Mustafa Ali got the chance to face off against American champion Bobby Lashley.

The former 205 Live regular missed a dropkick right out of the gate, so The All Mighty was able to take control right away.

Ali started to make a comeback and hit a 450 to Lashley’s arm as he was draped over the bottom rope. However, this only slowed the champion down a bit. Ali slapped him in the face, causing The All Mighty to crack. He pulled Ali out of the ring and directed him to two different ring positions.

It was a great showcase and another example of Ali’s underutilization over the past few years. He has so many great attributes, especially as a babyface.

Lashley made him regret beating a count when he sliced him in half with a spear before applying the Hurt Lock. Ali refused to tap, so he ended up fainting.

As the champ tried to help Ali up, Seth Rollins came out of nowhere to hit a Stomp on the defending champion.

    Winner: Bobby Lashley

    To note: B+

    Notable Moments and Observations

  • Ali should bring back his old entrance and music. His current song is more generic and he doesn’t stand out at all.
  • It was cool to see Ali do Chicago again with his tights.
  • Lashley flipping Ali over with a clothesline at ringside was a good spot.
  • The 450 spot of The All Mighty’s arm looked amazing even in slow motion.

Promo Riddle and Seth Rollins, Candice LeRae vs. Dakota Kai

3 out of 6

Rollins and Matt Riddle had a one-on-one showdown in which they weren’t allowed to touch each other, but before The Original Bro was released, his rival introduced unknown fans to the Fight Pit via a quick video package.

Riddle bluntly said he was going to kill The Visionary on Sunday. Rollins mentioned Riddle’s kids to make fun of him, so Riddle countered with some remarks about Becky Lynch being more successful.

Daniel Cormier appeared in a video to say he would be the Fight Pit referee at Extreme Rules.

The segment was probably the best part of this feud so far, and definitely one of the best showings for Riddle on the mic. He kept the stoner stuff to a minimum and came across as serious and focused.

    To note: B

Candice LeRae came out on her own for a match against Dakota Kai, who had backup in the form of Bayley and Iyo Sky.

The match was more competitive than previous encounters we have seen on this show. Kai and LeRae each had chances to get a good offense, but having Bayley and Sky at ringside gave the Women’s Tag Team Champion an unfair advantage.

With help from Bayley, Kai was able to steal the win.

While this match was good, it fell short of what we know both women can do in the ring.

    Winner: Dakota Kai

    To note: C+

    Notable Moments and Observations

  • Bayley had a Two-Face vibe with her outfit. Some might say “Cruella Deville”.
  • The dropkick that LeRae hit through the ropes was awesome. The camera position was perfect to make it look like it came out of nowhere.
  • It’s surprising how willing Riddle is to let his personal life be talked about.

Otis vs. Johnny Gargano, Chad Gable vs. Braun Strowman

4 out of 6

Chad Gable was at ringside and Austin Theory was commentator when Otis faced Gargano.

Johnny Wrestling used his quickness to avoid the big man early on, but Otis slammed him into the corner to bring him down quickly.

The former Mr. Money in the Bank is a lot faster and more versatile than he looks, so it ended up being a fun fight between two great athletes. It’s just a shame it’s another game with interference. Three out of four games so far in the series have had some sort of shenanigans.

Theory hit Gargano with the briefcase as the ref looked the other way, so Otis was able to hit a huge slam for the pin and the win.

Braun Strowman ran and knocked out Otis on the way to the ring before getting his hands on Gable.

    Winner: Otis

    To note: B

Strowman vs Gable was already happening when we came back from the break. In another instance of interference, Otis was shown throwing The Monster Among Men onto the announce table during the break.

Gable put in a surprising amount of attacks against Strowman, and even looked like he had a chance to win at one point, but a big boot from his rival knocked him out. He finished the former Olympian with a powerbomb for the pin.

It was quick, but it was an entertaining one-game sprint. Strowman has looked great since his return.

    Winner: Braun Strowman

    To note: C+

    Notable Moments and Observations

  • Otis begins to show signs of his old self again. He is more vocal and ignites like before.
  • Gable is so good at just about everything. WWE should really try to do more with him as a singles wrestler.
  • The way Otis sent Strowman to the announce table looked brutal.

Angelo Dawkins vs. Solo score

5 out of 6

Following a backstage confrontation earlier in the evening. Angelo Dawkins and Solo Sikoa met for a singles match.

The Usos and Sami Zayn were alongside Sikoa, but Montez Ford was unable to provide much help to fellow Street Profit as his foot was in a medical boot.

They’re two big guys who can move particularly well for their size, so it was the kind of match that almost every fan should have enjoyed. They moved fast, hit hard and never slowed down.

Once Sikoa started controlling the pace, he slowed it down a bit by starting to punish specific body parts. Ford watched from the ring as his teammate tried to fight the pain.

As good as it was, it was another in a long line of games that included interference in one way or another. WWE has been a lot better as a whole lately, but it feels like an oversight that someone let so many outside helpers be earmarked for a single show.

Sikoa picked up the win after some ringside mayhem with Zayn and The Usos.

    Winner: Solo score

    To note: B-

    Notable Moments and Observations

  • The growing animosity between Jey Uso and Zayn is one of WWE’s best storylines. Everything The Honorary Uce touches turns to gold these days.
  • Sikoa has a large Samoan drop. Not everyone hits him well, but his shots flow every time.
  • Dawkins is expected to win the Most Improved Superstar award. He’s really stepped up his game over the past few years.

Alexa Bliss vs. your sky

6 out of 6

Bayley and Bianca Belair signed the contract for their ladder match at Extreme Rules overseen by Corey Graves. We saw footage of Kai and Sky attacking Alexa Bliss and Asuka backstage.

This led to Bliss challenging Sky to a match after Asuka was injured by an attack with a steel chair to her leg. Belair accompanied the goddess to the ring to help even the odds.

Bliss showed more aggression than she has in some time as she beat her opponent with every move she could think of.

Over time, Sky began to make a comeback. After another match that included ringside activity, The Genius of the Sky hit his signature moonsault for the pin.

There was a lot to love about this contest, but with so many fights including interference on one show, it was hard not to let it affect the perceived quality of the whole show.

When all but one match in a three-hour episode has some kind of nonsense, maybe it’s time to revamp the script. We saw some good storyline developments, but there were other ways to accomplish the same thing.

    Winner: and sky

    To note: B-

    Notable Moments and Observations

  • The angry look Bliss had during the backstage segment started out great, but it got a bit overdone as it went on.
  • Thesz press is one of those moves that a lot of people use, but only a few can make it look really good. “Stone Cold” Steve Austin was one of those who made it look great most of the time. Bliss is random with this.
  • The running double knee that Sky hit in the corner looked sore. She was moving quickly when she made contact.
  • Kai and Bayley sending Belair down the steps looked and sounded crazy. She hit those steps hard.
