A free gasoline giveaway at a Norwood gas station is likely to cause traffic delays around an area of Massachusetts that is already congested.Drivers started lining up early Friday at the parking lot near the Rojo Irving Gas Station on Route 1, hours ahead of the beginning of the promotion that began at 6:40 am — 20 minutes earlier than planned.Businessman Ernie Boch Jr. is giving away 7,000 gallons of gas in a giveaway he’s calling “April Fuels.” “I was filing a friend of mine’s car up, and the numbers went to $107 — $107 to fill a car, and that is insane. So I started thinking, and gas is going up. It always goes up in the spring and the summer, and I said, ‘Well, I think I should do something,’ and here we are April Fuels Day,” Boch said. The 7,000 gallons of free gas will take about four hours to pump, and about 400 motorists will be able to take part in the promotion, Boch said. Several motorists started camping out in the area Thursday night. “I am retired, and there is nothing else to do, so I came out to get some free gas,” motorist Marty Scopa said. “I actually heard about it last night, and I was shocked. I live in Medfield, so I decided to come down, so I came here at about 10 pm, and here I am still,” motorist Patrick Haines said. Boch has paid for a police detail, and a traffic plan is in place. “Gas prices are crazy and it’s the right thing to do. I’m in the automotive industry. It’s a cool thing to do,” Boch said.
