‘Knives Out’ Director Confirms Daniel Craig’s Character Is Weird in ‘Glass Onion’ Sequel

Warning: minor spoilers ahead for “Glass Onion”.

Knives apparently aren’t the only things to come out in Netflix’s murder mystery sequel “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.”

Director Rian Johnson confirmed Benoit Blanc, the lead character in the film played by ‘James Bond’ star Daniel Craig, is “obviously” queer during the London Film Festival press conference on Sunday morning.

The highly anticipated sequel to the 2019 hit whodunit would touch on the famous sleuth’s personal life with a brief scene indicating that Blanc is “living with a man”, according to Insider.

When asked if the character is queer, Johnson replied, “Yes, he obviously is,” according to the outlet.

The spoilery tidbit was corroborated by others at the festival, with one noting that the “whole room went wild” over Johnson’s “emphasis” response.

Johnson went on to address an unnamed actor who allegedly played Blanc’s lover in the film, remarking that there is “no one in the world that I can imagine to bring me more joy with Benoit Blanc.” .

Craig, meanwhile, added, “Who wouldn’t want to live with that person?”

While that cameo is still being kept under wraps, a plotline from the film involving performances by Angela Lansbury and Stephen Sondheim, both of whom have died since filming, has been revealed online.

“Glass Onion” marks the final screen appearances of Lansbury and Sondheim, whom Johnson described as “so kind and generous.”

“We thought, my God, that one of them would one day?” We didn’t think they would. And both were so cool,” he said, according to Deadline. “For both of them, in addition to the honor of having them in the film, to be able to personally have 10 minutes with each of them to tell them what their work has meant to me was really special.”

The sequel, which also stars Kate Hudson, Leslie Odom Jr., Kathryn Hahn, Edward Norton, Janelle Monae, Jessica Henwick, Madelyn Cline and Dave Bautista, picks up with a new murder mystery set in a Greek island paradise.

“A tech billionaire Miles Bron (Edward Norton) invites some of his relatives for a getaway to his private Greek island, it soon becomes clear that all is not perfect in paradise,” according to the official synopsis. “And when someone winds up dead, well, who better than Blanc to peel back the layers of intrigue?”

The film, which arrives on Netflix on December 23, will first screen for a limited one-week theatrical release a month prior in a landmark deal with the streaming service and three major national movie chains.

“I’m thrilled that Netflix made this theatrical deal in November,” Johnson said at the press conference. “I love people watching it at home. Although if people want to see it in theaters, I want them to have the opportunity to see it with a crowd.
