Kim Kardashian says her and Kanye West’s eldest children, North, 8, and Saint, 6, are aware of their parents’ ongoing differences.
“I’m really open and honest with them,” the reality star told Robin Roberts during ABC News’ “The Kardashians” special, when asked how she talks to her children about the divorce.
“The younger ones don’t understand as much, but as far as with my two older ones, they know what’s going on.”
Kardashian – who also shares Chicago, 4, and Psalm, 2, with West – said her goal is to “be there for them no matter what, even in this crazy life that we live.”
At the beginning of Wednesday’s primetime special, screenshots of West’s since-deleted Instagram posts and snippets from his “Eazy” music videos with The Game (in which he mocked Kardashian’s new beau, Pete Davidson) flashed across the screen.
“Was it difficult because of how Kanye became so public? How have you been able to navigate that?” Roberts, 61, asked, to which Kardashian, 41, replied, “You want to take the high road, and sometimes it’s hard. But I think that, at the end of the day, everyone has their own way of communicating.”
She continued, “I’ve always been, like, a champion of him speaking his truth and I would always want that.”
In recent months, West, 44, has launched numerous public attacks on his ex-wife, her family and Davidson, 28, whom the musician pretended to bury alive to the lyrics: “God saved me from that crash / Just so I can beat Pete Davidson’s ass.”
The rapper’s social media tirades led to a 24-hour Instagram suspension, and he was later focused on performing at the 2022 Grammys.
Further speaking on the divorce, Kardashian told Roberts that she thinks it’s important to have “really open dialogue” with them.
“Kanye and I have had conversations, we have to talk daily for the kids,” she explained. “So, you know, I hate that it had to play out like that, but when it comes to family, I mean, Kanye and I will always be family.”
She added, “At the end of the day, I just want my kids to be happy and healthy and think the world of their dad, and they do.”
Earlier this month, Page Six broke the news that West recently told Kardashian he was “going away to get help.”
Sources told us the rapper promised his ex he wouldn’t make “any public appearances or inflammatory social media statements” in the meantime.
“At this time, Ye is committed to a healthy co-parenting relationship with Kim and is focused on raising their beautiful children,” a rep for West told us.
Kardashian and West were declared legally single in March. She filed for divorce in February 2021 and has been dating Davidson since October.
