Prince Harry has engaged in a ‘duel’ with Prince William and King Charles III over his decision to leave the Royal Family after Prince Phillip’s funeral in April 2021.
In this breathtaking memoir, ‘Spare’, Harry reflects on the ‘secret meeting’ at Frogmore Gardens between the three men as they tried to mend their broken relationship.
However, what was supposed to be a productive conversation quickly turned sour when the two brothers began to “heat up,” prompting their father to intervene.
According to the Duke of Sussex, the King begged his sons not to “do [his] last years a misery” as they went back and forth with blazing rages.
At one point, the Prince of Wales even swore on their late mother’s life that he really wanted his younger brother to be happy – which didn’t sit well with Harry.
The comment caught him off guard as the brothers only said those three words in “times of extreme crisis”.
In fact, Harry ‘didn’t believe’ or ‘fully trust’ William’s honesty, saying ‘even those holy words couldn’t set us free’.
Harry walked away from the meeting convinced that if his family didn’t know why he left royal life in the first place, then maybe they ‘never’ knew him at all.
The ex-royal wasn’t shy about revealing intimate details about the siblings; complex relationship – from referring to William as his “sworn enemy” to exposing an alleged physical altercation between them over Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle.
Harry claimed a “really hot” William, 40, “attacked” him in 2019 at Kensington Palace after calling Markle “difficult”, “rude” and “abrasive”.
“It all happened so fast. So very fast. He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my collar off and he threw me to the ground,” Harry recalled in the memoir, which will be on his shelves in the States. United on January 10.
Although William apologized at the time, he was reportedly furious with his younger brother for airing their dirty laundry.
Palace insiders told Vanity Fair on Thursday that there is “a huge trust issue” between the brother, as William fears Harry will leak all of their conversations to the press.
“At this time, he is not going to comment or react,” another source told the outlet ahead of the book’s release. “His plan is to overcome everything. Ultimately, he will always be the Prince of Wales, and that is what he is focused on.
Representatives from Buckingham Palace echoed that sentiment, telling Page Six that the royal family would not comment on any of the allegations made in “Spare.”
