Looks like there’s no love lost between this stepson and his supposedly mean stepmom. Prince Harry isn’t holding anything back as he blasts Camilla, the Queen Consort.
During an interview with Anderson Cooper Sunday night on ’60 Minutes’ while promoting his high-profile memoir ‘Spare’, Harry, 38, said Camilla’s need to rehabilitate her ‘bad guy’ image in the British press made her “dangerous” for him, “because of the links she was building within the British press”, he said.
“And there was an open willingness on both sides to exchange information. And with a family built on hierarchy, and with it on the way to becoming queen consort, there would be people or bodies left on the streets because of it.
Harry felt he was one of those “bodies”, he told Cooper, 55, in ’60 Minutes’. He further wrote in his book, “Camilla sacrificed me on her personal PR altar.”
Harry has previously opened up about his family throwing him and Meghan Markle under the bus to make themselves better seen in the public eye.
In their Netflix docuseries “Harry & Meghan”, Harry alleged that his father Charles and brother William leaked stories about the couple to the media, and also engaged in “trading” stories. (As he explained, this is when a member of the royal family offers the press a scoop on another member, in an attempt to extinguish negative stories about himself).
Harry said he and William swore never to do this “trading” practice, but William broke that promise. “Watching my brother’s office copy the exact same thing we promised never to do was heartbreaking.” says Harry in the documentary.
Now he says Camilla left him as a ‘body on the street’ because of her need to look better than being ‘the other woman’ in King Charles and Princess Diana’s wedding .
After Camilla and Charles had a widely publicized affair that led to Charles and Diana’s divorce, Charles and Camilla finally married in 2005. Prince Harry wasn’t happy about it either, he writes in his book, and Neither did Prince William.
Meanwhile, ’60 Minutes’ co-host Cooper asked Harry why the two brothers told their father not to marry Camilla. “We didn’t think it was necessary,” he said. “We thought it was going to cause more harm than good. And that if he was now with his person, surely that is enough. Why go that far when you don’t necessarily need to?
“Spare” is released on January 10.
