Sarah Jessica Parker leaves New York City Ballet gala due to ‘sudden and devastating family situation’

Sarah Jessica Parker has abruptly left a gala where she was being honored due to a ‘devastating’ family emergency.

The 57-year-old actress was recognized at the New York Ballet’s 10th Annual Fall Fashion Gala on Wednesday night – but had to leave moments after arriving.

A viewer told Page Six it was announced from the stage that the Sex and the City star had left due to a “sudden and devastating family situation”, but did not elaborate further.

The star-studded gala, hosted by the organization in which she serves as vice-chairman of the board, was held at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center in New York City.

Dailymail.com has contacted Parker representatives for comment and has yet to receive a response.

The exquisite event was a smash hit for the ballet as it has grossed $24 million since its inception in 2012, according to Page Six.

Parker was to be honored for “her vision and leadership of the Fall Fashion Gala,” in addition to a number of Fall Fashion Gala designers and choreographers.

The event celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Fall Fashion Gala, which combines “renowned choreographers with some of fashion’s most exciting talent and in doing so has led to the creation of nearly 30 ballets that reinvigorated the art form”.

Sadly, it’s unclear what was wrong with SJP, as the star is notoriously deprived of his family.

The gala comes a day after she attended the New York premiere of Hocus Pocus 2 with her husband, Matthew Broderick, and twin daughters Tabitha and Marion, 13, for a rare appearance.

Cutting a sleek figure in a sharp gray suit, Matthew could also be seen standing with Parker and their daughters, as they all posed for group photos together.

Sadly, no further details were shared about what went wrong with SJP, and the star is notoriously deprived of his family.

Parker, for her part, looked stunning in a white and purple floral kimono-style top with pink pants and matching heels.

Parker and Broderick married in May 1997 and she gave birth to a son, named James, in 2002.

They then expanded their family by welcoming the twins via surrogate in 2009.

“Meeting your children rather than giving birth to them is like, um, it’s suspended animation,” the movie star previously said of using a surrogate.

“The gestational experience is over…it’s so different and just as amazing…but it’s amazing.”

She also revealed that her daughters have been huge fans of her Halloween movie Hocus Pocus in the past, explaining they were “so excited” when they found out she would be returning for a sequel.

“They started watching this movie, I would say about three years ago,” she told People earlier this year.

‘They were so excited to meet Bette [Midler] and Kathy [Najimy]. Loretta kept asking me, “But wait, are we going to meet them like [their characters] Winnie and Mary? Or are we going to meet them as Bette Midler and Kathy Najimy?”‘
