Shemar Moore recalls being turned down by Alicia Keys on Thursday’s episode of The Jennifer Hudson Show.
The 52-year-old actor reminisced with Hudson about his interaction with the 42-year-old singer during his tenure as host of Soul Train at the turn of the century.
The SWAT star’s appearance on the show came just a day after he shared the first photo of his newborn daughter Frankie, who was born on Tuesday.

Moore and Hudson began by talking about his time as host of Soul Train, which he headlined from 1999 to 2003, and he noted that he was introduced to many artists while working on the program, including Keys.
He then told the 41-year-old show host that he tried to ask the singer out on a date, much to the surprise of her and the audience.
Moore said their meeting was “when she was first exploding” as a performer and he was impressed with her piano skills at the Soul Train Music Awards.
According to him, he and a friend of his attended one of Keys’ listening parties, during which he was encouraged to ask her out on a date.

“I say ‘Hey Alicia, look at this, you’re wonderful and the piano is amazing,'” he recalled. ‘”I don’t know what your manhood is, but if you’re ever in LA, I would take you out for a drink.”‘
Moore added that “Keys’ aunt was there, laughing and giggling at me.”
His response was, ‘Look at this, son. I respect your flirting game, but my situation as a man is handled.
Moore was deflated and said he was “left so uncool” after the rejection before immediately telling his friend he wanted to leave the party.

Moore is currently in a relationship with Jesiree Dizon, with whom he shares baby daughter Frankie.
He expressed his enthusiasm for fatherhood during his appearance on Hudson’s program.
People later confirmed that the singer and Dizon, 39, welcomed Frankie last Tuesday.
A rep for the couple spoke to the outlet and said the “actor’s family is very happy and healthy.”

The actor’s girlfriend also shares a five-year-old daughter named Charli with Stephen Bishop, and she has a son named Kaiden from a previous relationship.
Moore shared his excitement for fatherhood with a post that was shared to his Instagram account on Wednesday, where he was seen cradling his newborn daughter.
He also wrote a message that read in part: ‘ALREADY LOVE OF MY LIFE!! I’m a daddy girl!!!! HOLY S***!!! DREAMS COME TRUE!!’
The performer then predicted that ‘Frankie will grow up to be a KILLA!!!’
