Jules Bass, the producer behind Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Frosty the Snowman, died Tuesday at age 87 in an assisted living facility in New York City.
The talented director, who earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Children’s Special in 1976, died of an age-related illness, according to his publicist Jennifer Fisherman, who confirmed the news to Deadline.
In addition to helping spread Christmas cheer through his holiday television specials, including Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town, he has written several children’s books.

After attending New York University and working for an advertising agency, Bass inevitably began working with the late Arthur Rankin, with whom he collaborated on classics like Mad Monster Party and the television series The New Adventures of Pinocchio. .
