What is interesting here is that from Sunday to the middle of the week, Avatar 2 play like Rogue One: A Star Wars Story; yesterday not so far off the $14.96 million prequel from Lucasfilm on Wednesday. That said, Avatar: The Way of the Water to $183 million over six days is 11% behind A thug in its national cumulative total. It’s usually a box office death zone, however, Puss in Boots opened to a solid $34 million. While Puss in Boots 2 is under the first opening of the Wednesday before Christmas of Sing 2 which grossed $8.1 million before $39.6 million over 5 days, realize we’re still in a hallway where the audience’s cinema is sidelined by holiday activities. This all changes on Christmas Sunday for the better. Universal is considering a long term here for Puss in Boots 2. The studio is out Sing 2 until the first weekend in April north of 2,000 theaters. During all weekends in March, Sing 2 was earning over $1 million every weekend by the end of its run. Impressive. The final domestic market was $162.8 million.
