2017 marked the start of the #MeToo movement and exposed many Hollywood elites for their heinous behavior towards others seeking to break into the industry. Among those who have been brought to the forefront of the charges are Hollywood heavyweight Harvey Weinstein, who is undoubtedly the face of the enemy when it comes to the move, Louis CK, and Kevin Spacey. Actor Anthony Rapp (Lease and star trek: Discovery) accused the latter of sexually assaulting him in 2017, alleging Card castle the actor sued him in 1986. As the trial progresses, according to Deadline, he’s taken a sharp turn towards turmoil as lead defense attorney Jennifer Keller tests positive for COVID.

Last week, lead defense attorney Kevin Spacey tore holes in accuser Anthony Rapp’s testimony when she cross-examined him during the $40 million lawsuit against his Oscar-winning client. She pointed to the inconsistencies and vague details in the plaintiff’s accusations, saying the actor lied about being inspired by the New York Times article that started the #MeToo movement to talk about his experience. While her work has shaken up Rapp and made some much-needed progress in defending Spacey, they may have to go without her for a while since the defense team came forward and revealed she had tested positive for COVID and that she would be recovering.

Judge Lewis A. Kaplan considered the courthouse’s Covid protocols and ruled that the 12 jurors and ten others in the courtroom, including the entire defense team, their front row of supporters in the gallery and at least one Rapp lawyer, Richard Steigman, is now expected to pass two rounds of tests on Sunday and Tuesday. The judge then said the goal was to protect the court and save the trial if possible. The latest statement gives an ominous feeling about the future of Kevin Spacey’s trial; while a delay in the proceedings is certainly not ideal, a mistrial would mean that the whole process (including Rapp’s traumatic testimony on the stand recounting the events) would have to happen again.

Kevin Spacey has a long career that dates back to the 80s, but he only became a household name in two years (1995-1997) when he starred in five films which all became hits. The usual suspects, Epidemic, Se7fr, A time to killand LA Confidential. He’s since appeared in everything from Oscar darlings like american beauty to superhero movies like The Return of Superman and dark comedies like Horrible bosses. The accusations he received during the #MeToo movement ended his most recent and arguably most significant success since. american beautyby Netflix Card castle.

Perhaps representative of the whole message of the #MeToo movement, Anthony Rapp is the David of Kevin Spacey’s Goliath. His name is not one that would garner recognition in most homes as he is best known for his run as Mark in the Broadway and film versions of the musical. Lease. He appeared in other small films such as road trip and a beautiful spiritbut he recently found success on Star Trek: Discovery. If the trial is postponed, the nightmare the actor lived through in 1986 would be relived, something no victim should ever have to do.
