Whoopi Goldberg ignites for repeating ‘incendiary’ Holocaust remarks: ‘She didn’t learn anything’

Jewish activists and community members have demanded Whoopi Goldberg be fired from ‘The View’ over the weekend after she doubled down on her past remarks about the Holocaust, sparking a fierce outcry on social media.

Ten months after being suspended from the ABC daytime talk show for insisting that the Holocaust was “not about race”, Goldberg, in a new interview with British newspaper The Sunday Times, showed little remorse for his past rhetoric, reaffirming that the estimated 6 million Jews who were systematically killed during the Holocaust were not targeted because of their race.

‘The View’ co-host also claimed Nazis targeted people of African descent in addition to Jews because they were physically different and went so far as to suggest Jews had an easier time blending in in white people and hiding from the Nazis as black people did at the time of the Holocaust.

“It doesn’t change the fact that you couldn’t tell a Jew on the street. You could find me. You couldn’t find them. That’s what I meant,” she said. “But you would have thought I had taken a big old stinky dump off the table with my buttocks bare.”

The Times of Israel called Goldberg’s comments “inflammatory” in an article on Sunday, pointing out that although her real name is Caryn Elaine Johnson, the talk show co-host does not have Jewish ancestry and has adopted a more “Jewish-sounding” stage name.

Goldberg’s comments about the Holocaust in February, which led to his two-week suspension from the network and subsequent apology, stunned many in the Jewish community. At the time, religious leaders, activists and online critics encouraged her to educate herself on the subject, but largely supported her return to the show.

Now, with the lack of remorse evident in his latest interview, some are calling for his dismissal for his history of historically ignorant statements.

Lucy Lipiner, a Holocaust survivor and author of “Long Journey Home: A Young Girl’s Memoir of Surviving the Holocaust,” chastised Goldberg for continually using the genocidal horrors she witnessed as a “punching bag.”

“Whoopi Goldberg continues to use the Holocaust as her punching bag. We told her that her comments were hurting us and she just didn’t care,” said Lipiner, who had openly opposed the rhetoric. Goldberg’s history on the Holocaust.

“I survived the Nazis and the Holocaust,” she added, “so I’d be damned if I let a comedy has-been, peddling a fake Jewish name get the better of me.”

Newsweek contributor Joel Petlin replied: “Accepting apologies from some people spouting anti-Semitic garbage is the triumph of hope over experience. We know anti-Semitism will likely happen again, but we still hope they learned something along the way. could get away with it. Once again.

Writing for the interview, Janice Turner of The Times revealed that “Even now [Goldberg] does not understand why his words offended. She insists that Jews themselves are divided as to whether they are a race or a religion.”

The interview comes less than a year after Goldberg issued a watered-down apology for the same comment after making people “very angry”. She somewhat defended her comments at the time, however, saying that as a black woman, she viewed race as something she could see.

Responding to Goldberg in a Fox News Digital interview earlier this year, Lipiner said of her stance, “She got it wrong. It was really against my race, my Jewishness. It wasn’t white against white people as she says. White people, but we were exterminated because we were Jews. Men, women, children, infants, killed because we were Jews.

“I guess he’s a smart person,” Lipiner added. “[But] I don’t understand how she could be so oblivious to the Holocaust, how it happened and how it happened to us, the Jewish people.”
