After Disney Movie Bombshells, Movie Critic Tells Hollywood ‘Go Wake Up, Go Broke’

The new Disney film “Strange World” is underperforming at the box office and is ultimately expected to lose $147 million. The film also features the first openly LGBTQ+ teenage Disney character who talks about his crush in the film.

Film critic and author Christian Toto said of the bombing, “Hollywood doesn’t fully grasp the ‘go wake up, go broke’ mantra.”

Speaking to Fox News Digital, he added: “In some cases, parents avoid the content of sexual conversations. Parents are [savvier] today. They use social media and get feedback on movies from their peers, online or in person.”

“Strange World” is about the Clades family of explorers. In the film, young Ethan tells his grandfather about his crush on another boy. Toto added that there could be several reasons for the film’s poor performance, but noted that the discussion of sexuality in a children’s film “definitely did not help the film’s fortunes at the box office”.

DID DISNEY’S DREAM AGENDA CAUSE THE CEO’S CASTLE?

Entertainment website Deadline reported that “Strange World” earned just $28 million worldwide over the Thanksgiving long weekend. According to Deadline, progressive politics might not have allowed Disney to simply drop what could be a substandard movie straight to streaming: “If Strange World had gone straight to Disney+, it would be a PR nightmare for the studio, in particular following [former Disney CEO Bob] Chapek’s “Don’t Say Gay” quagmire in Florida.”

Regarding the possibility of a streaming-only release, Toto, the editor of Hollywood in Toto, theorized, “It is possible, however, that progressive forces inside and outside of Disney , Inc. have raised a stench about the final destination of the film. Those voices may be few, but they are strong.”

Fox Business has contacted Disney for comment, but has not yet received a response.

In June this year, the Disney Pixar film “Lightyear” also underperformed. It featured a gay kiss and Pixar first removed the scene before adding it back as Disney publicly opposed Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ efforts to ban discussions of sexuality and gender identity in elementary schools. .

“Lightyear” star Chris Evans attacked those who might object to the film’s lesbian kiss: “The real truth is that these people are idiots.” He added: “There will always be people who are scared and unaware and trying to hold on to who they were before. But those people are dying like dinosaurs. I think the point is to ignore them, move on and embrace growth.” that makes us human.”

However, Toto believes poor pre-training of movies could ultimately force a course correction for companies like Disney: “Hollywood doesn’t fully grasp the ‘go wake up, go broke’ mantra, but some executives get the message. We have seen woke regrets at Netflix and Warner Bros…Disney may soon realize that revival is not a lucrative position.”

As for what parents can do about it all, Toto concluded, “We have decades of wonderful, no-wake content for parents. And, if money is tight, platforms like Tubi and Pluto TV offer a crush of older content with limited commercial breaks.” He pointed to the growth of streaming channels with traditional content.
